Who does UAW Local 276 represent?
Local 276 is an Amalgamated Local meaning it represents more than one company. Today, it represents the GM hourly workers (Unit 1 Production and Skilled Trades) at the General Motors Assembly Plant that manufactures full-sized SUVs in Arlington, Texas, the hourly Caravan Facilities Management workers (Unit 2 Housekeeping and Skilled Trades), and HydroChem Facilities Management (Unit 3 Booth Cleaners) who clean the Paint Booths at GM Arlington.

Who are my Union Representatives?
Bargaining Representatives for General Motors hourly employees are listed as District Committeepersons and Alternate Committeepersons on the Unit 1 (GM) Bargaining page.


Bargaining Representatives for both Caravan (Unit 2) and HydroChem (Unit 3) hourly employees are listed as Stewards and Alternate Stewards on the appropriate Bargaining page.

Does UAW Local 276 have a Collective Bargaining Agreement with my employer?
For GM hourly workers, there are two (2) Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA):


1. The UAW/GM National Agreement that covers all GM facilities regarding wages, overtime, benefits, dues, the grievance procedure, vacation, holidays, seniority, loss of seniority, retirement, bonuses, profit sharing, bereavement, jury duty, legal services, transfers between GM facilities, districts in the plant, number of Committeepersons and number of Shop Committeepersons, harassment, discrimination, training, Apprentice Program, new job rates, political contributions, temporary employees, tuition assistance plan, and work week plus other provisions affecting all GM facilities. This Agreement runs for four (4) years and is negotiated by the UAW/GM National parties in Detroit, Michigan.


2. UAW Local 276 and the GM Arlington Assembly plant also have a Local Agreement that also runs for four (4) years and is negotiated locally by the Unit 1 (GM) Shop Committee and members of the GM Arlington Assembly plant Management Team. This agreement is specific to the hourly workers at GM Arlington and covers such things as the number of shifts for both Production and Skilled Trades, the start times for shifts, lunch and break times, start and end times for shifts, the number of Districts in the plant, working conditions, supervision, day-to-day work life, health and safety in the plant, plant medical, plant Worker's Compensation, requests for time off, Shop Rules, and other details that are specific to working at the GM Arlington plant. This Local Agreement does not apply to the hourly employees of Unit 2 (Aramark).


For Caravan hourly workers - Unit 2, there is only one (1) Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA):
1. The UAW/Caravan Agreement covers all Caravan facilities regarding wages, overtime, benefits, dues, the grievance procedure, vacation, EVAC days, holidays, seniority, loss of seniority, part-time employees, bonuses, attendance award, bereavement, jury duty, number of Stewards, union activity, Shop Rules, training, attendance policy, supervision, points, lunch, breaks, shifts, Apprentice program, and work week schedules plus other provisions affecting all Caravan facilities. This Agreement runs for five (5) years and is negotiated by the UAW/Caraven National parties in Detroit, Michigan. This Agreement does not apply to the hourly employees of Unit 1 (GM) or Unit 3 (HydroChem).


For HydroChem hourly workers - Unit 3, there is only one (1) Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA):

1. The UAW/HydroChem Agreement covers all HydroChem facilities regarding wages, overtime, benefits, dues, the grievance procedure, vacation, EVAC days, holidays, seniority, loss of seniority, part-time employees, bonuses, attendance award, bereavement, jury duty, number of Stewards, union activity, Shop Rules, training, attendance policy, supervision, points, lunch, breaks, shifts, Apprentice program, and work week schedules plus other provisions affecting all HydroChem facilities. This Agreement runs for five (5) years and is negotiated by the UAW/HydroChem National parties in Detroit, Michigan. This Agreement does not apply to the hourly employees of Unit 1 (GM) or Unit 2 (Caravan).

I am a member of UAW Local 276 - Does it matter which Union Rep. I use?
Yes. The Collective Bargaining Agreements for GM, Caravan, and HydroChem are completely different. Unit 1 (GM) Bargaining Representatives can only represent GM hourly employees, Unit 2 (Caravan) Stewards can only represent Caravan hourly employees, and Unit 3 (HydroChem) Stewards can only represent HydroChem hourly employees.

Can members of the UAW Local 276 Executive Board answer my bargaining issues or help me with a grievance?
No. Members of the Executive Board only deal with matters concerning the operation of the Union itself. They are not part of the Bargaining Committee.

Who makes up the Unit 1 (GM) Bargaining Committee?
The Unit 1 (GM) District and Alternate Committeepersons, who were elected by members of their individual Districts, make up the Unit 1 (GM) Bargaining Committee.

Who makes up the Unit 1 (GM) Shop Committee?
The Unit 1 (GM) Shop Committee is comprised of individual District Committeepersons who were elected plant-wide by GM hourly employees to serve on the Shop Committee along with the two (2) Committeeepersons-at-Large who were elected plant-wide by GM hourly employees.


Who makes up the Unit 2 (Caravan) Bargaining Committee?
The Unit 2 (Caravan) Stewards and Alternate Stewards, who were elected by members of their individual Shifts, make up the Unit 2 (Caravan) Bargaining Committee.


Does Unit 2 (Caravan) have a Shop Committee?

No - their Collective Bargaining Agreement has no provision for a Shop Committee.


Who makes up the Unit 3 (HydroChem) Bargaining Committee?

The Unit 3 (HydroChem) Stewards and Alternate Stewards, who were elected by members of their individual Shifts, make up the Unit 3 (HydroChem) Bargaining Committee.


Does Unit 3 (Caravan) have a Shop Committee?

No - their Collective Bargaining Agreement has no provision for a Shop Committee.


How much are my union dues?

UAW members of each of the three (3) units pay two and one-half (2 1/2) hours dues plus fifty cents ($0.50) per month for union dues. If the employee works forty (40) hours during the month or receives benefits equal to 40 hours in a month, the dues are payable for that month.
